NaturalSoapScentedSuds offers Sodium Lactate 60% – FCC Grade. Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid. Sodium lactate is an important element for good cosmetics and perfectly suitable for certified natural cosmetics. In cosmetics, Sodium Lactate is an effective humectant and moisturizer, stabilizes the pH value, helps remove dead cells, and helps harden bar soap. Cosmetics manufacturers use it in products that stay on the skin as leave-on or rinse-off products. Formulators use it in bodywash, lotion and shampoo products to provide gentle cleansing and aid in preservation.
PH-Sodium lactate is often used as a preservative or pH buffer in foods. Sodium lactate also functions as a buffering agent, which means it will help establish and hold the pH of a product. It is important to balance the pH of cosmetics and skin care products in order to maintain the skin’s normal pH, between 4.75 and 5.5. Moisture-Another function of sodium lactate is as a humectant moisturizer. Sodium lactate is similar in function to hyaluronic acid and glycerin, both great humectant ingredients. Using sodium lactate produces smooth, harder, longer-lasting bars of soap. When making soap, add Sodium Lactate to the water phase (after the lye solution has cooled). Recommended usage rate is 1% and up to 4% or just add 1 tsp. per pound of oils. Be careful not to use too much; using too much sodium lactate will result in a hard, crumbly bar of soap. Used at 1-4% of the total lotion recipe.
